Nagaland and Manipur at a Glance

          The Directorate Of Field Publicity (Nagaland & Manipur ) Region is located in the far north eastern part of the country embellished with Hilly terrain and geographical remoteness . The two states together share over 600 kilometers of international boundary with neighbouring country Myanmar. Since its inception in 1965 , DFP has come a long way in playing a proactive and special role in facilitating these two states towards joining the mainstream and also empowering citizens. During the initial years of the start up of this organization, the region was faced with lots of upheaval starting from the cauldron of ethnicity and geographical remoteness of the region thereby creating a social and political lacuna. In such a scenario , DFP has steadfastly played an important role in breaking the mental isolation of the people of the area and to make them receptive and also convincing the people that they also are an integral part of the nation. Of late, the role of DFP has been greatly enriched as it plays the role of facilitators towards people’s empowerment by educating the masses on various flagship and centrally sponsored schemes , existing and newly launched welfare schemes etc, at the grassroot level.

         DFP (N & M) region was set up on 5th July 1965 with Shri. N.N. Chaterjee, CIS, as its first ARO. In the initial stage there were 5 units – Kohima , Mokokchung , Tuensang , Imphal and Churchandpur . Gradually Mon in Nagaland , Tamenglong , Chandel and Ukhrul in Manipur was added with Senapati unit being the last to be added in November 1998. Today, the Region has altogether eight units viz, Imphal , Churchandpur , Tamenglong , Ukhrul , Senapati and Chandel in Manipur while Nagaland has to two units in Mon And Tuensang district each. Units that are sharing international border with Myanmar include Mon and Tuensang in Nagaland and Ukhrul , Churchandpur and Chandel in Manipur

         DFP (N&M) has been a harbinger of change in the region, equipped with 16 mm projectors in the 60’s to modern audio visual equipments in the present time, the organization is constantly evolving towards simplifying information and communication which will cater to local needs . It has been playing a pioneering role in the national integration and empowerment of country’s citizen by carrying social messages to remote border villages of the region and disseminating information on various social welfare schemes to bring about a positive change in the lives of the people.
